I’ve been extremely stressed about school this week. In my group approaches class it was my turn to counsel a group.  I’ve had anxiety about it for weeks, and was doubting myself a lot (ironically enough, my group’s topic was stress management and personal values).  Luckily, I have really awesome friends, coworkers and family members.  They listened to my worries and assured me that I would do great.  My coworkers let me practice the group with them and gave me positive feedback which made me feel more confident.

I was super nervous all day- I could barely eat, and had trouble focusing my mind on other things. I was kind of nervous when I got into class, but my classmates reassured me and told me they had my back.  The group flowed very well, there was resistance from one group member, but I got her to talk a bit.  They really enjoyed the personal values clarification exercise I planned for them.  Lots of people said it was very insightful, and helped them realize they need to make changes in their lives.  Three people even asked for extra copies of it so they could use it for the groups they lead at their internships and jobs.

My professor said I did a great job.  I was anticipating more feedback, but I can deal with that.

Afterwards, I took my career development final.  We graded it in class and I scored a 100%.  I thought we were gonna leave class after that, but my professor asked if anyone was ready to do their group presentations.  My group member, Jill wanted us to present first to get it over with.   Even though I felt extremely unprepared, I decided to trust her judgement.  We went up together, and winged it.  Got full credit for it.

I still have another week of classes, but it should be a cake walk- all I have to do is hand in a summary paper and participate in our last group.  Now I feel like I can finally relax- this semester has been so stressful, but I have learned so much and I have definitely grown as a helper.

So happy and proud of myself :)
